Chowning'S Tavern Brunswick Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 large chicken
    2 c. green butter beans
    4 c. tomatoes
    2 large onions, diced
    4 medium potatoes, diced
    4 c. whole kernel corn
    2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. white pepper
    1 Tbsp. sugar
Preparation
    Cut chicken in eight pieces and simmer 2 1/4 hours in 1 gallon of water or until chicken is tender.
    Remove chicken. Add beans, tomatoes, onions and potatoes to broth.
    Simmer until beans are tender, about 1 hour.
    Add hot water, if necessary, and stir to prevent scorching. Add corn and chicken, boned and diced,
    and seasonings; cook until corn is done. Serves 8 to 10.
    Better the day after being prepared.
