Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. sugar
    3/4 c. molasses
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 egg
    2 1/2 c. plain flour
    1 1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. ginger
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1 c. hot water
Preparation
    Mix sugar, molasses, shortening and egg until smooth.
    Sift together flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger and cloves.
    Add to sugar mixture; stir in hot water and pour into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
    Bake in 350\u00b0 oven until done, about 40 to 45 minutes.
    If using self-rising flour, omit soda and salt.
