Caramel Brownies - cooking recipe

1 lb. individually wrapped caramels (light)
1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
3/4 c. butter
2/3 c. evaporated milk
1 c. chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
Preparation

In a double boiler over low heat, melt 50 caramels and 1/3 cup of evaporated milk. To a German chocolate cake mix, add 3/4 cup of melted butter and 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Mix well; put 1/2 of batter in a greased 9 x 13 pan and bake for 6 to 7 minutes at 350\u00b0. Remove from oven and sprinkle 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1 cup of chopped nuts (optional) over the top. Pour melted caramels over that. Then distribute the remaining half of the cake mixture by spoonfuls over this. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool and cut.
