Old Fashioned Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef chuck, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
    2 Tbsp. fat
    2 c. boiling water
    2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
    1 clove garlic
    1 medium onion, sliced
    2 bay leaves
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    1 tsp. paprika
    6 carrots
    1 lb. small white potatoes
    dash of allspice or cloves
Preparation
    Thoroughly brown the meat on all sides in hot fat, turning often.
    Add boiling water, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, sliced onions, bay leaves and seasonings.
    Cover and simmer.
    Don't boil for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally to keep from sticking. Remove bay leaves and garlic clove.
    Add carrots, onions and cubed potatoes.
    Cover and cook 30 minutes.
