Fried Okra - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 lb. okra
1 c. cornmeal
1/2 c. shortening
salt and pepper to taste
Preparation

Rinse okra.
Remove caps, cut pods into 1/2-inch slices.
Toss with cornmeal.
Heat shortening in heavy skillet or electric skillet.
Fry single layer of okra about 8 or 10 minutes until golden brown on all sides.
Do not overcook, or okra will be too soft.
Turn carefully.
Remove and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Serve immediately.
