Fig Preserves - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 qt. figs
    4 lb. sugar
    7 1/2 qt. water
    1 c. baking soda
Preparation
    Sprinkle ripe figs with 1 cup baking soda, cover with 6-quarts of boiling water and let stand 15 minutes.
    Drain and wash in 2 baths of clean, cold water and drain.
