Crisp Pickle Slices - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. sliced cucumbers (medium sized)
    6 medium white onion, sliced
    2 green peppers, chopped
    3 cloves garlic
    1/3 c. rock salt (ice cream salt) or plain salt
    5 c. sugar or 2 c. light corn syrup and 3 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    3 c. cider vinegar
Preparation
    Do not pare cucumbers; slice thin.
    Add onions, peppers and whole garlic cloves.
    Add salt; cover with cracked ice.
    Mix thoroughly.
    Let stand 3 hours; drain thoroughly.
    (I sometimes leave overnight, adding enough ice to last.) Combine remaining ingredients; pour over cucumber mixture.
    Heat just to boiling. Seal in hot, sterilized jars.
    Makes 6 to 8 pints.
