Spiced Pineapple Upside-Down Cake - cooking recipe

1 1/3 c. butter or margarine, softened and divided
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 (20 oz.) can pineapple slices, drained
10 to 12 maraschino cherries
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 c. buttermilk
Preparation

In a small saucepan, melt 2/3 cup of butter. Stir in brown sugar. Spread in the bottom of an ungreased heavy 12-inch skillet or a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Arrange pineapple in a single layer over sugar mixture. Place a cherry in the center of each slice. Sprinkle with pecans and set aside.
