14 Day Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. cucumbers, sliced
    1 pt. salt
    1 piece blue stone (size of a pea)
    1 piece alum
    1 qt. vinegar
    5 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. pickling spice
Preparation
    Cover cucumbers and salt with water; let cucumbers sit in water for 9 days.
    Drain off water and then cover with boiling water with blue stone for 1 day.
    Drain off and cover with boiling water and alum for 1 day.
    Drain off and cover with vinegar, sugar and spice; heat to boiling.
    Cover for 3 days and put in jars and seal on third day.
