Ingredients

2 eggs
5/8 c. sugar
1 1/4 c. sifted pastry flour (if using a nonpastry flour, add 1/2 tsp. baking powder)
1 tsp. anise seed (can substitute anise flavored extract)
Preparation

Place sugar and eggs in bowl and beat well for 10 minutes. Add flour slowly and mix thoroughly.
Add anise seed.
Butter and flour
a 4-inch loaf pan and bake in moderate oven (375\u00b0) for 20 minutes.
Remove from pan and slice into 1-inch thick slices; place slices on buttered baking dish and return to oven and cook 5 minutes on each side until brown.
Anise seed have the flavor of licorice.
