French Onion Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 to 3 large onions, peeled
    2 Tbsp. butter
    1/2 tsp. sugar
    1 Tbsp. flour
    salt and pepper
    6 c. beef or chicken broth
    French bread
    cheese (Swiss or Cheddar)
Preparation
    Cut onions into thick slices.
    Melt butter in heavy pan.
    Add onions and sugar; cook, stirring, until the onions are golden brown and transparent.
    Stir flour in gradually until blended. Stir in stock, salt and pepper.
    Cover and simmer for 20 minutes. While soup is cooking, slice bread into thick slices and toast.
