Dutch Apple Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    6 Tbsp. Vermont butter
    4 tsp. baking powder
    1 egg, separated
    1/2 tsp. salt
    4 tart Vermont apples
    2 Tbsp. Vermont maple sugar
    1 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1 c. Vermont milk
Preparation
    Stir salt, baking powder and flour together and work in shortening (butter); add egg yolk to mixture and fold in stiffly beaten egg white.
    Spread mixture 1/2-inch thick in shallow baking pan.
    Pare, core and quarter apples.
    Cut every quarter into 2 pieces lengthwise.
    Place in parallel rows on top of mixture with the sharp edge down.
    Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon mixture. Bake in 400\u00b0 oven for 30 minutes.
    Serve with whipped cream.
