Kate Waller Icing - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1 c. sweet milk
    1 Tbsp. white Karo syrup
    1 Tbsp. vanilla
    1 1/2 sticks margarine
    1/2 c. sugar
Preparation
    Melt and brown 1/2 cup sugar in small skillet.
    Place 3 cups sugar and milk in large
    boiler.
    Bring
    to
    a
    boil; add browned sugar, continue boiling until
    this
    makes a soft ball when dropped in cold water.
    Pour
    in
    mixing bowl with margarine.
    Add vanilla and beat until
    thick
    enough
    to spread on cake.
