Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. pinto beans
    ham or bacon
    8 c. water
    2 Tbsp. butter
    1 c. onion, chopped
    1 c. celery, chopped
    1 clove garlic, crushed
    1/2 c. green pepper, chopped
    1 can tomatoes
    1 tsp. oregano
    1 tsp. ground cumin
    2 Tbsp. chili powder
    2 tsp. sugar
    salt and pepper
    cayenne
Preparation
    Wash beans.
    Simmer beans, water and meat in covered kettle 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
    Add water if needed.
    Fry onion, celery, garlic and green pepper in butter until tender.
    Add to soup with tomatoes and seasonings.
    Cover and simmer at least 30 minutes longer.
