Ambrosia Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. vegetable shortening
    2 c. sugar
    3 1/2 c. flour
    3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 c. water
    1 tsp. orange extract
    6 egg whites
    1 Tbsp. salt
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar in large mixing bowl.
    Add unbeaten egg whites, one at a time, beating after each addition.
    Sift flour, salt and baking powder together.
    Add these, the water and extract, all at once.
    Beat at medium speed 2 or 3 minutes.
    Pour into 3 greased 9 x 9-inch pans and bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
    Caution:
    Do not overbake.
    Cool before frosting.
