Coconut Ice - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. sugar
    1 tsp. butter
    1 c. milk
    1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
    1 c. coconut
    vanilla
    cocoa
Preparation
    Combine first 4 ingredients.
    Bring to a boil and boil 10 minutes, stirring all the time.
    Take off heat and beat in 1 large cup of coconut and a few drops of vanilla essence.
    Stand in cold water and beat until it thickens.
    Pour half into buttered plate. Color remaining half with cochineal or cocoa and pour on top.
