Refrigerator Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    16 c. thinly sliced cucumbers
    2 c. onions, sliced
    3 Tbsp. salt
    2 c. vinegar
    4 c. sugar
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 1/2 tsp. alum
Preparation
    Mix cucumbers, onions and salt.
    Let stand 3 hours.
    Don't drain.
    Mix vinegar, sugar, turmeric, celery seed and alum. Heat.
    Bring to boil.
    Let cool, then pour on cucumbers.
    Put in airtight bowl or container and put in refrigerator.
    Keeps a long time.
