Old-Fashioned Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. stew beef
    1/4 c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    2 Tbsp. salad oil
    2 c. water
    3/4 c. tomato juice
    1 bay leaf
    1 tsp. thyme leaves, crushed
    4 potatoes, cubed
    6 carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces
    2 stalks celery, sliced
    1/2 lb. small whole onions
Preparation
    Cut beef into 1-inch pieces.
    In a paper bag, combine flour, salt and pepper.
    Add meat, a few pieces at a time.
    Close bag and shake to coat.
    Repeat with remaining meat.
