English Toffee(Holiday Favorite!) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 Tbsp. water
    1/2 lb. butter or margarine (2 sticks)
    1 c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    chocolate chips and chopped nuts (optional)
Preparation
    In a large iron skillet, combine water, butter and sugar. Cook on high heat, stirring constantly.
    Cook candy to a light brown color (candy will bubble and leave the side of the pan). Cook a little longer.
    Remove from heat.
    Add vanilla.
    Pour out on a baking sheet covered with buttered foil.
    When candy starts to cool, turn over so it does not stick.
    Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over candy while hot.
    Yields 1/2 pound candy.
