Scalloped Tomatoes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. chopped onion
    3 Tbsp. melted butter
    1 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1/4 tsp. basil
    2 c. small cubes toasted white bread
    2 (14.5 oz.) cans stewed tomatoes
Preparation
    Saute the onion in butter in a saucepan.
    Add seasonings and bread cubes; stir until well mixed.
    Arrange 1 can of the stewed tomatoes in a buttered 1 1/2-quart casserole.
    Top with half the bread mixture.
    Repeat the layers.
    Bake, uncovered, at 375\u00b0 for 40 to 45 minutes.
