Creamy Vegetable Soup - cooking recipe

1 c. ham, cut in small cubes
3 c. water
2 c. fresh broccoli, chopped
1 c. cauliflower, chopped
1 c. carrots, cut
1 c. celery, cut
1 1/2 to 2 c. potatoes, cut
1 (14 1/2 oz.) can Swanson chicken broth
3 Tbsp. onion soup mix
1/4 tsp. thyme
1/8 tsp. basil
1/4 tsp. black pepper
4 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1/2 c. flour
2 1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
Preparation

Boil ham and water 3/4 to 1 hour on simmer.
Add chicken broth and seasonings to ham and water along with chopped vegetables. Bring to a boil and then cook on low for about 45 minutes.
