Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1 large egg (1/3 c.)
1 1/2 c. thick, unsweetened applesauce
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. each: cloves and allspice
1/2 c. water
1 c. walnuts, cut up
Preparation

Set oven for moderate (350\u00b0).
Cream the shortening and sugar until fluffy.
Beat in egg, then applesauce.
Mix and sift the flour, baking soda, salt and spices.
Stir in alternately with water.
Stir in walnuts.
Bake 45 to 50 minutes in greased and floured oblong cake pan (13 x 9 x 2-inch).
Cool on rack.
Frost as desired.
