Carnival Candy Apples - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    12 medium red Delicious apples
    2 c. sugar
    3/4 c. water
    1 c. light Karo syrup
    1 to 2 tsp. red food coloring
    12 skewers or popsicle sticks
Preparation
    Butter cookie sheet generously.
    Mix sugar, water, syrup and coloring in heavy saucepan.
    Boil, without stirring, until reaching hard-crack stage.
    Push sticks in apples through stem side.
    Dip apples quickly in syrup, twirling until completely covered.
    Stand on cookie sheet.
    Chill in refrigerator until hardened.
