U.S. Senate Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. navy beans, soaked overnight
    ham bone with good meat on it
    3 qt. water
    1/2 c. cooked mashed potatoes
    3 onions, chopped fine
    1 bunch chopped celery
    1 clove garlic
    1/4 c. parsley, chopped fine
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Put soaked beans, ham bone and water in kettle and simmer until beans are tender.
    Add mashed potatoes and stir until well mixed.
    Add remaining ingredients and simmer another hour.
    Remove ham bone, cut up meat and return to soup.
    Check seasonings. Serves 12.
