Bran Apple Coffee Cake - cooking recipe

3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
3 c. whole bran cereal (Bran Buds)
2 eggs
1 (8 oz.) can (1 c.) applesauce
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. butter or margarine
1 c. sugar
1/3 c. butter or margarine
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/2 tsp. baking soda
Preparation

Combine 1 cup flour, brown sugar and cinnamon.
Cut in 1/2 cup butter.
Combine 1 cup cereal with 1 cup boiling water; set aside. Cream the granulated sugar and 1/3 cup butter.
Beat in eggs. Mix in milk, applesauce and softened bran.
Combine the remaining flour, soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Add the remaining cereal and egg mixture; blend well.
Pour into two greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch baking pans.
Sprinkle half of the cinnamon mixture atop each. Bake at 400\u00b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
