Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    12 unpeeled cucumbers, sliced
    8 onions, sliced
    2 green sweet peppers, cut small
    2 red sweet peppers, cut small
    2 stalks celery, cut small
    1/2 c. pickling salt
    1/4 c. water
    1 1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 1/2 c. white sugar
    3 c. vinegar
    1 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. Turmeric
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
Preparation
    Combine in large kettle:
    cucumbers, onions,
    green sweet peppers, red sweet peppers, celery.
    Mix 4 cups cold water with 1/2 cup pickling salt and pour over above.
    Let stand about 2 hours.
    Then drain and rinse and mix with the following ingredients that have been brought to a boiling point:
    1 1/2 c. brown sugar, 1 1/2 c. white sugar, 3 c. vinegar, mustard seed, celery seed, turmeric and cloves.
    Bring back to boil.
    Cook until cucumber slices are tender, about 15 minutes.
    Seal in hot, sterilized jars.
    Makes about 6 pints.
