Cheese Corn Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. yellow corn meal
    1 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
    1/4 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    4 tsp. baking powder
    1 1/2 c. grated sharp Cheddar cheese
    1 egg
    1 c. milk
    1/4 c. shortening, softened
Preparation
    Sift
    together corn meal, flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
    Stir
    in
    cheese.
    Mix
    in
    egg, milk and shortening. Beat
    with a rotary beater about 1 minute or until smooth.
    Do not overbeat.
    Pour
    in a greased 8-inch square pan.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
    Cut in squares.
    Serve hot.
    Serves 8.
