Beef And Barley Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. lean beef for stew
    5 c. water
    1/3 c. barley
    1/2 tsp. thyme
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    4 to 5 medium carrots, sliced
    1 c. celery, sliced
    2 Tbsp. fat
    1 medium onion, chopped
    2 Tbsp. instant beef bouillon
    1/2 tsp. marjoram
    1 bay leaf
    1/2 lb. fresh green beans or 1 can
Preparation
    Brown meat in fat.
    Pour off drippings.
    Add water, onion, barley, bouillon, thyme, marjoram, pepper and bay leaf.
    Cover tightly and cook slowly for 1 1/2 hours.
    Stir in carrots, celery and green beans (if canned, add at the end and heat).
    Cook, covered, for 45 minutes or until all are cooked through.
    Serves 5 to 6.
