Macadamia Nut Cream Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/3 c. milk
    3/4 c. sugar
    1/2 c. Macadamia nuts, chopped
    dash of salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 egg
    5 tsp. cornstarch
    2 egg whites
    1 baked 9-inch pie shell
    1 c. heavy cream, whipped
Preparation
    In a saucepan, combine 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup of nuts, salt and vanilla; scald.
    Blend the remaining 1/3 cup of milk with egg and cornstarch.
    Thoroughly stir some of the hot mixture into egg mixture; return all to saucepan.
    Cook 5 minutes more, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.
    Cool 1 hour.
    Beat 2 egg whites until soft peaks form.
    Gradually add the remaining 1/2 cup sugar, beating until stiff.
    Fold carefully into cooled mixture.
    Pour into baked pie shell.
    Chill.
    Top with sweetened whipped cream and remaining 1/4 cup nuts.
