Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    3 c. white vinegar
    1 tsp. mustard seed
    1/3 c. salt (not iodized)
    1 tsp. turmeric
    4 large onions (optional)
    8 large cucumbers
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers and onions.
    Combine all other ingredients; cover cucumbers and onions with the liquid.
    Refrigerate in a tightly covered container for 3 days before using.
    Yields 5 quarts.
