Grandma'S Favorite Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. sifted enriched flour
    1 tsp. double action baking powder or 2 tsp. single action
    3/4 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. ginger
    2 Tbsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. Grandma's old-fashioned molasses
    1 egg (unbeaten)
    1 c. boiling water
Preparation
    Sift together first 7 ingredients. Cream together shortening and sugar. Add molasses and mix well.
    Stir in 1/2 cup dry ingredients. Beat in egg.
    Add remaining dry ingredients alternately with boiling water.
    Beat 1/2 minute.
    Pour batter into well-greased and lightly floured 8 x 12-inch pan; bake 45 to 50 minutes in moderate 350\u00b0 oven.
    After it is cooled, frost or serve with whipped cream or fruit.
