Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/3 c. molasses
2 c. flour
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 c. water
1/4 c. sugar
Preparation

Mix together thoroughly the shortening, 1 cup sugar, egg and molasses.
In a separate bowl, combine dry ingredients (flour, soda, cinnamon and ginger) and then stir them into shortening mixture.
Form dough into small walnut-sized balls and dip tops into dish of water and then in 1/4 cup sugar.
Place sugar side up on a cookie sheet and bake at 375\u00b0 for 10 to 12 minutes, until light brown.
Cookies will flatten as they bake.
