Boiled Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. raisins or dates
    2 c. (heaping) sugar
    2 c. cold water
    1/2 c. melted shortening
    2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. salt
    4 c. flour
    1 tsp. nuts (if desired)
Preparation
    Boil together raisins, sugar, water and shortening.
    Let cool. Add soda, cloves, nutmeg, salt and flour.
    Pour into 2 greased and floured loaf pans.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 50 to 55 minutes.
