Sauerbraten - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 lb. beef bottom round pot roast
    1 pt. vinegar
    water
    4 bay leaves
    12 peppercorns
    4 cloves
    1 small bunch carrots, sliced
    6 onions, sliced
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    12 gingersnaps
    salt and pepper
Preparation
    Place meat, vinegar and water to cover roast and seasonings in a bowl.
    Marinate 3 days (turning daily).
    Remove roast to Dutch oven and brown.
    Add carrots, onions and 1 cup marinade.
    Cook 4 hours in a 350\u00b0 oven.
    Remove roast and vegetables.
    Add sugar and crumbled gingersnaps to liquid.
    Cook until thickened.
    Add more vinegar, salt and pepper, if desired.
    Spoon some gravy over meat. Serve the rest separately.
    Makes 8 servings.
