My Mothers 1, 2, 3, 4 Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter or margarine
    1 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
    2 c. sugar
    3 c. self-rising flour
    4 eggs
Preparation
    Beat egg and butter together.
    Sift flour and sugar together. Add to butter and egg mixture with milk.
    Makes 3 (8-inch) cake layers or 2 (9-inch) layers.
