German Hot Red Slaw - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head red cabbage
    1 small onion, chopped
    bacon bits
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1 bay leaf
    1/4 c. water
    2 Tbsp. red wine vinegar
    1 chopped apple
Preparation
    Shred and core cabbage, then boil with bay leaf, onion, sugar and salt.
    Simmer for 15 minutes.
    Remove from heat; add vinegar and apples.
    Garnish with bacon bits.
