Swiss Steak - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    2 lb. round steak, cut 1-inch thick
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 (4 oz.) can mushroom pieces
    1/2 c. finely chopped onions
    1/2 c. finely chopped green pepper
    1 c. tomatoes
    1 (1 lb.) can whole tomatoes with juice
Preparation
    Combine flour with salt and pepper; pound into meat.
    In family skillet, melt shortening over medium heat, about 3 minutes. Do not allow shortening to smoke.
    Brown steak for 5 minutes per side.
    Add mushrooms, onions, green pepper and tomatoes.
    Simmer over low heat, covered, for 1 1/2 hours, or until tender.
    Makes 4 to 6 servings.
