Beef Stroganoff - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. round steak, 1/2-inch thick
    2 Tbsp. hot shortening
    1/4 c. cut up onion
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    2 Tbsp. flour
    1 1/2 c. tomato juice
    4 oz. can mushroom stems and pieces
    1/2 c. Pet evaporated milk
    1 Tbsp. lemon juice
    3 c. cooked noodles or rice
Preparation
    Cut steak into 3 x 1-inch strips.
    Brown strips in shortening in 10-inch skillet.
    Add onion, salt and pepper.
    Blend in flour, then tomato juice and mushroom stems and pieces, drained.
    Cover; cook over low heat 1 hour, until meat is tender.
    Stir in mixture of milk and lemon juice.
    Heat until steaming, but do not boil. Serve over noodles or rice.
    Makes 4 servings.
