New Maraschino Cake - cooking recipe

2 3/4 c. sifted flour
1 3/4 c. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. soft shortening
1/3 c. juice from cherries
2/3 c. milk
16 maraschino cherries cut in eighths
5 egg whites
1/2 c. nuts
Preparation

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add shortening, cherry juice, milk and cherries. Beat 2 minutes add egg white unbeaten. Beat for 2 minutes fold in nuts. Grease and flour 13 X 9 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes if using layer pans or 35-40 minutes if using 13 X 9.
