Italian Cream Cheese - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. butter, softened
    1/2 c. shortening
    5 eggs, separated
    1 tsp. soda
    1 c. buttermilk
    2 c. flour, sifted
    1 c. flaked coconut
    2 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. nuts
Preparation
    Cream sugar, butter and shortening.
    Add egg yolks, beating after each addition. Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add alternately with flour to egg mixture.
    Add coconut.
    Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
    Add vanilla and nuts.
    Bake in three 8-inch greased and floured pans in a moderate oven at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
    Cool and frost with cream cheese frosting.
