Fastnachts - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    approximately 5 c. flour
    1 small yeast cake
    2 tsp. salt
    1/4 c. sugar
    1 egg
    3 Tbsp. shortening, melted
    2 c. milk, scalded and cooled to lukewarm
Preparation
    Place flour in bowl; make well in center.
    Soften yeast and 1/2 tablespoon of sugar in 1/2 cup milk.
    Pour into flour.
    Mix and let rise until light.
    Add remaining milk, egg, salt, sugar and shortening.
    Work into a dough.
    Knead thoroughly adding more flour is necessary.
