Apple Cinnamon Puffs - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. water
    1/2 tsp. red food coloring
    4 to 5 apples
    1 1/2 c. sifted flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 c. shortening
    3/4 c. milk
    2 Tbsp. melted butter
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Preparation
    Boil sugar, water and red food coloring to a syrup, about 5 minutes.
    Peel and thinly slice apples; place in a greased 8 x 12-inch pan.
    Pour syrup over apples.
    Mix flour, baking powder and salt.
    Cut in shortening; stir in milk.
    Drop 12 spoonfuls of dough on top of apples.
    Make a dent in the middle of each.
    Mix the melted butter, 2 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon; add to the dents.
    Bake at 450\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
