Green Tomato Crisp - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. sliced green tomatoes
    2 gal. lime water
    4 lb. sugar
    4 pt. vinegar
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. each: ground cloves, cinnamon, allspice, celery seed and mace
Preparation
    Soak tomato slices in the lime water, made by stirring 3 cups garden lime into 2 gallons water, for 24 hours.
    Drain, then rinse well under running water.
    Soak for 4 hours in fresh cold water, changing water every hour.
    Drain.
