Mama'S (Mabel Kerr) Brown Sour Milk Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1/2 c. Crisco
1 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. raisins
1 c. chopped walnuts

Preparation

Cream together the Crisco shortening and sugar.
Sift dry ingredients.
Add sour milk alternately with sifted ingredients into creamed mixture; add vanilla.
Batter will be thick.
Blend in raisins and walnuts.
Bake at 250\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
Makes 1 loaf or 2 small rounds.
Double the recipe and put in 9 x 13-inch pan and bake for 1 hour.
Frost with butter icing.
