Pears With Almond Topping(Light Swedish Dessert) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 fresh pears (apples can be substituted)
    1 1/2 c. water
    1 1/2 c. sugar, divided
    4 Tbsp. butter
    2 Tbsp. flour
    4 Tbsp. milk
    2/3 c. sliced blanched almonds
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cut pears or apples into halves; pare and core.
    Simmer for about 6 minutes in water and 1 cup sugar.
    Place on a serving dish.
