"Old Virginia" Scrapple - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 large onions, chopped
    1/2 Tbsp. butter
    1/2 Tbsp. lard
    2 lb. ground round or other lean beef
    1 c. corn meal (stone ground Virginia corn meal, if available)
    1 large can tomatoes
    1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms
    salt and pepper to season
Preparation
    Brown onions in fat. Add meat.
    Fry out somewhat. Add tomatoes, mushrooms, corn meal and 1 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste. Simmer 2 hours over low heat.
