Chocolate-Vanilla Wafer Dessert - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 c. butter
    3 eggs, separated
    dash of salt
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 1/2 sq. bitter chocolate
    1/2 lb. vanilla wafers, crushed
Preparation
    Cream the butter and sugar.
    Add beaten egg yolks.
    Melt chocolate; add vanilla and add to batter.
    Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites and salt.
    One-half cup of chopped nuts may be added. Spread half of crushed wafers in a buttered shallow pan.
    Spoon on chocolate mixture 1 inch thick.
    Sprinkle on remaining crumbs. Refrigerate 24 hours.
    Cut in squares to serve.
    Serves 8 to 12.
