Lillian Dodge'S Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg
    2 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1 1/2 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. ginger
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. butter or Crisco shortening
    1 c. mild molasses
    1 c. hot water
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. cloves
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar.
    Add beaten egg, molasses and dry ingredients which have been sifted together.
    Add hot water and beat until smooth.
    Bake in greased shallow pan for 35 minutes in 325\u00b0 to 350\u00b0 oven.
