Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    vegetable oil
    2 1/4 c. yellow cornmeal
    1 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. finely chopped onion
    3/4 tsp. baking soda
    1 1/2 c. buttermilk
Preparation
    Heat oil (1-inch) to 375\u00b0.
    Mix cornmeal, salt, onion and baking soda.
    Stir in buttermilk.
    Drop by spoonfuls into hot oil. Fry until brown, about 2 minutes.
    Makes about 2 dozen hush puppies.
