Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. sliced pickles, crosscut less than 1/8-inch thick
    8 small, sliced onions
    3 green peppers, sliced fine
    1/3 c. salt
    3 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1/4 to 1/2 tsp. cloves, ground
    2 c. white vinegar
    1 c. water
Preparation
    Combine pickles, onions, green peppers and salt.
    Let stand 1 hour.
    Drain juice and place in large kettle.
    Add sugar, turmeric, cloves, vinegar and water.
    Boil 8 to 10 minutes or until pickles begin to turn clear.
    Pack in hot jars and seal. Makes 7 pints.
